Ingredients:
Vegetable oil - You could also use olive oil, coconut oil, or avocado oil.
Steak - Any beef steak will work, as long as it's thinly sliced. Ribeye steak would be nice and tender, and a flank steak is an affordable option as well. Thinly sliced steak or shaved ribeye are what you'll commonly see.
Onion - Sliced thinly with a sharp knife. Any variety of onion is fine: yellow onion, red onion, Vidalia onion, or white onion. We normally use white onions.
Mushrooms - We normally use white button mushooms but baby bella mushrooms work well too.
Provolone - Use slices for ease.
Hero roll - You can make your own or get at the store.

How to make Blackstone Philly Cheesesteak
Step One: Preheat the griddle to medium-high heat.

Step Two: Add the oil and then place on the steak, mushrooms, and sliced onions. Season with black pepper and salt.

Step Three: Place the roll with the cut side down on the flat-top grill. Cook for one minute, then flip and cook for an additional minute.

Step Four: Top the steak and vegetables with the slices of provolone cheese.

Step Five: Cook until the cheese melts. Then, place on the toasted bun with a large metal spatula. Serve.

Variations
Add different veggies - You can add green peppers, red bell peppers, or anything else you'd like.
Add cheese whiz - A classic cheesesteak sandwich has some cheez whiz on it, so you can always add some of that at the end.
Season the cheesesteak meat - The best meat can be seasoned however you'd like. Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Use a different cheese - If you're not a fan of provolone cheese, you can use American cheese, cheddar cheese, or even Swiss. If it is a cheese that takes longer to melt you can cover the sandwich fillings with a dome to speed up the process.
Meats - Make it with chicken or even venison. Our Venison Philly Cheesesteak is amazing.

Common Questions
What is a Blackstone griddle?
A Blackstone griddle is a type of flat top griddle that looks similar to a grill and uses propane for heat.
Do flat top grills cook evenly?
Yup! We love it because we can cook 2-3 pounds of bacon at once.
How do I store leftovers of this Blackstone Philly cheesesteak recipe?
For the best texture and taste, let the meat and veggies cool down all the way and then store them in an airtight container in the fridge.
You can also add leftovers to the freezer as well - making it a great option for another meal.
What do I serve with a cheesesteak?
Classic side dishes like french fries, potato chips, and potato salad go well with a steak sandwich. You can also fry up some Blackstone Potatoes at the same time you cook this for a complete meal.
How do I toast buns without burning them?
Cooking the hoagie rolls on a flat surface on medium heat is a great and easy way to toast bread. Be sure to add butter to the buns for extra flavor.
How do I choose good meat to cook for a Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwich?
It's all about the marbling. You want a little bit of marbling in the meat so that it has some fat content to it - and stays moist. The last thing that you want to have happen is to have the meat dry out, making it tough and chewy.
The good thing about this easy sandwich is that adding the cheese on top will help to add moisture back to the meat if you do overcook it at all. You're covered if that happens!
You also need to be aware of the thickness of the meat. It needs to be thin for this sandwich to have the right texture and taste. If the meat is cut too thick, it will be hard to chew and overpower the rest of the flavors.
Have the butcher at your grocery store cut the steak thin or ask for it shaved. You can also tell them that you're making a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, which will give them an idea of how to cut it for you.
