Rosemary adds a delicious twist to a classic gin cocktail. The Rosemary Gimlet will be your new favorite refreshment. Simple syrup infused with rosemary is the perfect balance to dry gin and lime. Be ready to make a pitcher, your guests will be asking for seconds!

A classic gimlet, combines gin, simple syrup, and fresh lime juice. The classic garnishes are either a cucumber wheel or a lime wheel. The first step to this variation of the Gimlet is to make your Rosemary infused simple syrup.

    How to make Rosemary Syrup

The first step, take a fresh sprig of rosemary. Using the back of a knife, gently beat and bruise the leaves. This will allow the flavorful oils of the rosemary to seep into the syrup.

Next, combine equal parts of boiling water and white granulated sugar into a small saucepan or a microwave-safe measuring cup. I will typically use a ¼ cup of each to start. Dissolve the sugar into the boiling water and allow it to cool off. Bring it to at least room temperature because we don't want to cook the fresh rosemary sprig.

Place the rosemary into a jar or airtight container and pour the simple syrup over it. Allow it to sit for at least an hour. You can also put this jar into the refrigerator for several weeks to allow the flavor to really build before using it. Having this made ahead of time will give you more time when your guests arrive.

    Ingredients for Rosemary Gimlet

    • 1.5 oz dry gin. Gin is classic for a Gimlet. You could also choose to use vodka if you prefer or don't have gin on hand.
    • ½ oz of Rosemary simple syrup.
    • ½ oz of fresh lime juice. This is about the juice of half a lime.
    • Garnishes - I like to place a lime wheel in the glass along with a sprig of rosemary.

Instructions to make a Rosemary Gimlet

Step One: Add fresh ice to a cocktail shaker. Next, add the gin, rosemary simple syrup, and lime juice.

Step Two: Cover the cocktail shaker and shake for five seconds. Then strain it into a cocktail glass. This cocktail could also be served in a rock's glass over ice.

    Step Three: Garnish and enjoy!

    Variations

Herbs - You can use a variety of fresh herbs for that amazing herbal flavor. Try thyme, basil, or even sage.

Vodka - If you prefer a vodka gimlet simply swap out the gin for your favorite vodka.
