There's nothing quite like that first refreshing sip of your favorite cocktail. What I love about this strawberry sour is the perfect combination of that sweet and sour taste. Using the fresh strawberries really kicks up the natural sweetness, and paired with the bourbon, you know it's going to be good.

In just a few seconds, this simple cocktail is ready to be enjoyed. Just be sure to have a good cocktail shaker and some ice cubes on hand, as this is best served chilled! Add a fresh strawberry or some strawberry slices for garnish, and you're good to go.

If you're looking for even more delicious drink recipes, these Strawberry Vodka Shots are fast and straightforward, too. There's always time for a few shots here and there, right?

    Ingredients for a Strawberry Sour

Simple syrup - While you can use the syrup that you buy from the store, you'll also see how to make your own homemade syrup below as well. (just three ingredients are all you need)

Lemon juice - Added to the syrup mixture for a citrus kick.

Lime juice - Combing the lemon juice and lime juice is what makes the sour strawberries come to life.

Bourbon - Choose your favorite brand of bourbon and enjoy.

Strawberry - Pick a ripe strawberry that has loads of sweetness.

Step Two: Muddle the chopped strawberry in a cocktail shaker. You want it to look like a thick puree.

Step Three: Next, add the ice cubes, bourbon, and sour mix.

    Variations

Change up the type of alcohol - You can add whiskey, gin, or anything else that you'd like. (a strawberry whiskey sour sounds pretty good!)

Use a different fruit - While sliced strawberry is delicious, trying peaches with this drink recipe sounds like a great idea as well.

Add different garnishes - Sliced strawberries are a great idea to put into the drink or on the rim, but you could also add a slice of lime or a slice of lemon, too. If you don't want an edible garnish, add a fun umbrella straw to the drink and it's suddenly a tropical drink that everyone will love.

    Common Questions

    Can I use frozen strawberries?

Frozen strawberries would be fine to use, and can help chill the drink. Just thaw them about halfway so you can muddle them.

Since they're frozen, they're going to be holding moisture that can ultimately end up watering down your cocktail.

Will a blender work to chop up the strawberries?

Using a blender is really unnecessary. You want to still have some strawberry chunks to add flavor to your taste buds, and putting them into a blender and keeping that texture will be hard to accomplish.

A blender might just blend the strawberry too much making it more like a paste.

Do I have to add the sour syrup to the strawberry mixture?

You don't have to do anything that you don't want to do. It's your drink, so you can make it how you'd like.

The one thing to keep in mind, however, is that the sour helps to contrast some of the sweetness. If you're a fan of super sweet drinks, it may not be an issue for you. But if you like a contrast to the sweetness, that is where the syrup mixture helps out quite a bit.

Can I make this cocktail ahead of time?

This cocktail is best served fresh and right away. Since it takes just a few seconds to make, be sure that you make it when you're going to drink it.

This simple strawberry drink is great for parties as well and a fast and simple way to serve a refreshing cocktail to your family and friends.

If you make it too far in advance, the ice cubes are going to milk, and it will water down the drink. It's best to make, pour, and drink - all at once.
