    Ingredients

Beef - All you need is cooked steak. I recommend cutting it into thin slices. I used leftover London broil to make this recipe. I typically enjoy my beef medium rare, so using leftovers in a different recipe is easy to do. This recipe doesn't call for a specific cut. As long as it is sliced steak you can use sirloin steak, flank steak, or even ribeye steak for this dish.

Onions - Onions are a classic ingredient for a cheesesteak. Cook them slowly to add a touch of sweetness to the dish.

Peppers - Bell peppers are a perfect addition to this dish. you can go with green peppers, or add some red peppers too if you want some more colors in the dish.

Cream Cheese and Mayo - These two ingredients team up to make a perfectly creamy sauce.

Cheddar - Shredded Cheddar Cheese is the perfect topping for this casserole.

Onion Powder and Garlic Powder - These spices ensure that each bite is balanced with delicious flavor.

Salt and Black Pepper - I always list them in my ingredient list, but they should be a given. The best food is the food that is seasoned well.

How to Make a Philly Cheesesteak Casserole Recipe with Steak

Step One - Place the sliced onions and peppers in a large casserole dish or a deep baking dish. Add olive oil, and half of the salt and pepper.

Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake at 400°F for about 20 minutes or until the peppers and onions are soft and the edges turn golden brown. You can also saute the peppers and onions in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat if you prefer.

    Variations

Cheese - As an alternative to cheddar cheese you can also use slices of provolone cheese or American cheese.

Bold Flavor - If you like rich, bold flavors add a teaspoon or two of Worcestershire sauce to the cheese sauce.

Ground Beef - You can swap out the steak for browned ground beef if you prefer.

Thinner Sauce - If you like a thinner sauce in your casseroles stir half a cup of beef broth into the cream mixture.

More Sauce - You can also increase the quantity of sauce by stirring in half a cup of sour cream.

Tater Tots - If you love a classic tater tot casserole try adding a layer of potatoes under the cheese.

    Common Questions

How to serve leftover steak casserole?

Scoop it onto a plate with egg noodles and serve it right into a hoagie roll for classic Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. If low carb is your thing, the good news is that this is the perfect keto Philly cheesesteak casserole. However you want to serve it, this dish is versatile to meet everyone's needs and feed the entire family.

How long is leftover steak good for?

Leftover steak is good for up to four days if kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I find it as an easy lunch or a healthy snack, just to eat cold.

How to heat up leftover steak?

The way to heat up leftover steak will differ slightly depending on how you plan to use it. If you are going to just eat the steak as a steak, heat up a large skillet over medium-high heat, put a tablespoon olive oil in the skillet, and give the steak a two min sear on each side. Boom you are done. If you are going to use it in some other recipe, it might be easier to slice or chop it up first.

What to do with leftover steak?

You have countless options for leftover steak. If you want to turn it into a cheesesteak or fajita, I recommend either thinly slicing it or turning it into shaved steak before you cook it. Then you will quickly hit it with some heat via a griddle top or a hot skillet along with your veggies and whatever else you are including.

For extra flavor try our Smoked London Broil Recipe in some of these options.
