It's true: You can cook just about anything in your air fryer basket. The first time that I cooked bite-sized pieces of deer meat in my air fryer, I knew that air frying was the way to go. It was tender, juicy, and delivered quality air fryer steak bites that I couldn't stop eating.
The cooking process of air fryers not only cuts down the time needed to cook, but it also cooks the entire cut of meat evenly due to the flow and force of the hot air circulating inside. Ingredients
- Deer meat - You can use all types and cuts of deer meat, but I typically choose venison steak.
- Seasonings - We use a combination of salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder.
See recipe card for quantities.

How to Make Air Fryer Venison

Step One: Cut up the deer meat into bite-sized cubes. You can make them varying sizes, but try to get them uniform for even cooking time.

Step Two: Once the meat is cut into pieces, season generously with the seasonings. Toss them to coat.

Step Three: Cook the venison bites in the air fryer.

Step Four: Let the venison rest for a short time before serving.
Top tip
If you like crispy crusts, you can sear the cooked venison in a cast iron skillet for a few seconds on both sides. Don't do it for long, or it will overcook - but a short time will work.
Substitutions
- Meat - You can use this recipe to cook all different cuts of wild game recipes. You can make tender venison filet mignon bites or cook an air fryer venison roast.
Variations
- Seasonings - Have fun with this. You can season with onion powder, soy sauce, olive oil, red wine, liquid smoke, cayenne pepper, or even let it marinate in beef broth before cooking.

Equipment
You don't need a ton of equipment for easy air fryer recipes. I typically keep cooking spray, a meat thermometer, and tongs on hand, in addition to an air fryer.
Storage
If you have leftovers, let the meat cool to room temperature and then store it in an airtight container. Keep the venison leftovers in the fridge, and eat within 2-3 days for the best results.
To reheat, you can warm them in an air fryer, on the stovetop, or even in the microwave, although this is not my method of choice.
Cooked venison can be frozen as well. Store in a freezer-safe bag or container.

Common Questions
You can cut up, cook, and serve a juicy venison filet mignon with a side of fresh portabello mushrooms or grilled vegetables. I also like making and serving this dish with some sort of potato dish. Mashed potatoes or a loaded baked potato are typically my go-to. If you're eating low-carb or keto, veggies or a simple side salad work great. With this air fryer recipe being so simple, keeping the side dishes simple is key.
I dont' think so. This is where the seasonings really do come into play. If you only season with salt and pepper, there is a strong possibility that you'll notice a bit of a gamey taste. If you season with a variety of spices, you'll likely taste the seasonings and anything gamey. I typically add quite a bit of seasoning, and I've never had a problem with the flavor.
Absolutely. You can add the cooked venison to tacos or chili. I like to use leftover cubed venison that has been air fried in a big pot of chili, as it gives a great flavor and the perfect texture.
