This Irish Slammer Recipe is the perfect choice for your next party. The delightful blend of Irish Whisky and Guinness stout beer creates the perfect drink and Irish shot. This is a popular drink at Irish pubs and an excellent choice for quick consumption at home. It's time to try this new type of cocktail today!
In my opinion, there's no better way to start the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations than with this simple alcoholic drink. Not only is it a fun party drink, but it's one of those Irish cocktails that balances the line between a creamy shot and a popular American drink. Each time I've made and served this, it's been a great addition to the party.
I find it to be a delicious drink because I enjoy the flavor of Jameson Irish Whiskey. That, paired with the creamy texture that occurs once the ingredients are combined, is what keeps me coming back for more. Be sure to grab a tall pint glass so that the drink has room to combine and expand. It doesn't foam up necessarily quickly, but the combination of the ingredients does bring quite an excitement factor to see and drink.

Ingredients
Jameson Whiskey - This is my favorite go-to Irish whiskey, but any brand will work. Choose what you have at home, or use your top pick.
Irish cream liqueur - I prefer this type and brand, but again, you can have fun and be flexible with your choice.
Guinness beer - A delicious stout beer that adds a huge depth of flavor.
How To Make This Irish Slammer Cocktail
Step One: Pour the beer into a large pint glass. Be sure that you find a glass that holds all the beer and leaves room for the ingredients to expand a bit.
Step Two: Add the Irish cream and Whiskey into a shot glass.
Step Three: Drop the entire shot glass into the poured pint of beer. Make sure to leave some headspace or the glass will overflow.
Step Four: Tip the glass and drink the contents immediately.
Variations
You'll hear this classic cocktail referred to in a variety of other names. Popular choices also include Irisn Bomb Shot, Dublin Drop, Irish Car Bomb Drink, and more.
You'll find that they all have a touch of sweetness to them and are made with similar ingredients - but could have a variety as well. Some are made using green beer, Baileys Irish cream, and even ice cream can be added for a touch of sweetness.
The traditional way to make this drink is listed below in the recipe card, but adding in a bit of ginger ale can also help to reduce some of the alcohol content and also help to take away any bitter taste that might remain.
Common Questions
Is this cocktail served cold?
Some people do pour it over ice cubes, but that isn't a common way to make this drink. As long as the beer is chilled or cold, that's really all you need to do. It's not meant to be served chilled or cold, but might be a bit on the cooler side due to the cold beer.
Do you have to chug an Irish slammer?
Yes, this Irish bomb shot is meant to be chugged. This is because if you let the ingredients linger as you sip, they'll start to curdle in the glass. Once you drop the shot glass into the pint of Guinness, slam it down and enjoy the flavor.
Can I use a different type of beer?
You really want to use an Irish stout for this drink. While you can use another option for beer, it does take away that flavor that works so well together. The stoutness of the beer is also important for the visual effects.
Is this drink the same as a jäger bomb?
It's not, but they are very similar in how they are created. Instead of dropping a shot of jager into the glass of beer, you're dropping a shot of liqueur. A jager bomb is typically where a shot of jager is dropped into an energy drink, like Red Bull, and then slammed or chugged in the same manner. The concept is the same, but the ingredients used are very different.
